On Sunday 9 July, Oxford PharmaGenesis Commercial Director Dr Richard White completed the Velothon Wales bike race in support of Ataxia and Me, a rare disease charity run by Alan Thomas. Richard completed the 140 km course in just under 5 hours, and has so far raised over £800. Oxford PharmaGenesis matches donations raised by employees in events that support health-related causes.
Richard said, “Alan is a truly inspirational person. His response to having his life changed and a successful career cruelly taken away by ataxia – a debilitating, rare, progressive disease that is currently without treatment – has been to dedicate himself to raising awareness not only of ataxia, but also of a host of other rare diseases and movement disorders, and to providing support to all those affected by these conditions. It was my privilege to race in support of Ataxia and Me.”
Velothon Wales is a traffic-free event that allows amateur riders to cycle the same course that the professionals take later in the day. The race starts in the centre of Cardiff, taking riders along the coast to Newport and then into the Brecon Beacons, and then returns to the city for the finish.
