Celebrating 5 years of working with Asia Pacific clients through our Melbourne office

With a strong biotech and pharmaceutical sector, Melbourne, Australia was the ideal city in which to establish an Oxford PharmaGenesis base for Asia Pacific (APAC). Since 2018, the Melbourne office has seen brilliant growth and success with APAC clients. This year, we celebrate its fifth anniversary and the journey so far.

Our Melbourne office opened in 2018 with just one employee: Communications Director Steven Inglis. His initial aim was to support the work of the UK and US offices of Oxford PharmaGenesis, while recruiting local talent and exploring the local and regional pharmaceutical landscapes; however, the office secured its first local Australian client almost immediately.

The success of the first project – the delivery of a podcast about HIV – led to repeat business, enabling the office team to expand this new offering and become a finalist at PRIME Awards Australia 2019, while growing relationships in Japan and the USA.

Further projects ranged from internal capability building for pharmaceutical clients in Australia to onsite regional congress support and the delivery of a global publications team-building workshop in San Francisco, USA.

Building trust; delivering for APAC clients

The growing Melbourne team continued to flourish in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic. They continued to develop partnerships with global pharmaceutical clients, and worked on local medical education and publications in various therapy areas.

During 2021 and 2022, the team’s hard work saw well-deserved profitability. They exhibited at the inaugural MAPS/APPA Joint Medical Affairs Summit for Australia and New Zealand. New colleagues joined from Sydney, Australia and Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand, and the company’s Asian footprint grew to China thanks to our company’s global reputation and a personal recommendation.

This year, as Oxford PharmaGenesis marks its 25th anniversary, our Melbourne office celebrates its fifth birthday with 13 colleagues and big plans ahead. We’re looking forward to seeing what the next 5 years bring.
