Unveiling the future of pharmaceutical training, we gathered invaluable insights at the Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network (LTEN) Annual Conference.
Training professionals are constantly striving for impactful learning experiences that not only educate, but also induce tangible behaviour change. Our Learning Design Team Lead, Jamie Singer, attended the Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network (LTEN) Annual Conference in Kissimmee, FL, USA, to assess the latest trends and innovation in pharma training.
One of the topics central to learning conferences is measuring the impact of learning initiatives, with leaders demanding more on impact outcomes and return on investment. Many trainers, most notably in Medical Affairs, tend to focus on measuring the learners’ reaction to the training or knowledge retention, without assessing behavioural change and ultimate business (and wider) impact.
The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in learning design was another key element of the conference. For example, several companies showcased their AI coaching avatars, transforming sales representative training through objective, real-time performance evaluations, which significantly reduced training time. Some noted that replacing the nuance of human interaction is not yet achievable, but the companies that shared their learners’ experiences of AI coaching gave favourable feedback of the non-human coaches. AI companions for complex document comprehension (such as prescribing information documents) also showcased the technology's potential, and there was time to discuss some of the applications of generative AI in the learning space – these included summarizing ‘free text’ output of feedback surveys and developing scenario-based role plays.
With the trend towards short-form social media videos, there were several presentations on this topic, showcasing how this format can reinforce learning or offer different perspectives on educational material.
